The EQUIPU service is an integrated store system that delivers a range of equipment supplied by health and social work services to people requiring assistance with living at home.
The operation is co-ordinated in a 35,000 sq ft purpose-built warehouse area in Baillieston, Glasgow.Over 90 team members and 32 vehicles provide services to Glasgow City Council, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, East Dunbartonshire Council, West Dunbartonshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council, Renfrewshire Council and East Renfrewshire Council.
Geographical coverage of the service goes from Gartocharn in the West to Bargeddie in the East and from Abbington in the South to Milton of Campsie in the North. Assessing staff (nurses, home carers, occupational therapists) across health and social work services request equipment from a dedicated state-of-the-art website. Prescribers can view an online catalogue which helps when choosing equipment. A full email order audit route is sent to prescribers detailing the progress of each order from picking to client delivery and installation.
Recycling of equipment is at the heart of EQUIPU. All equipment returned to the warehouse is processed through our state of the art recycling and decontamination centre, before being inspected and placed back in stock ready for re-use. In 2008, £2,000,000 worth of recycled stock was re-used. Savings made through recycling are passed on to all our partners.
EQUIPU is fully scalable and this allows other local authorities to join the service with ease helping them meet the Scottish Government’s shared services agenda.
