New registration requirement for home carers

01/05/2018
Staff required to register before June 2020

Cordia home care staff are now required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Registration is essential, enabling staff to work in a care at home job. Skilled home care staff will now be recognised for their importance and professionalism in the same way as social workers and residential care staff.

The SSSC is the regulator for the social service workforce in Scotland and set standards for workers’ practice, conduct training, education and support professional development.

It will be the responsibility of every home carer and social care worker to personally register with the SSSC at a cost of £25.
Registration is compulsory under the Regulation of Care (Scotland) Act 2001 and failure to do so will mean those who are not registered are unable to work for a provider of social care services including Cordia.

New Cordia carers have been registering as soon as their employment has commenced with existing staff required to do so between now and June 2020.

Staff are able to register on-line through the SSSC website (www.sssc.uk.com). Guidelines on how to complete registration are also available on the site.
